GYPSY LADY

1967 Alberg 37 Restoration

BEFORE

AFTER

Before priming, sanding, etc.

See the stripes where the winter cover had been tied...also no lifelines....and winter cover frame is still in place.

(note the cool bus in the background...full of primer)

All painted - decks and hull - The water line is painted here

The coaming boards before restoration

The cockpit -  The cockpit lockers had wood that was

rotten on top.

Installed and looking brand new, many moons after.

Cockpit lockers were fiberglassed over so that they're not susceptible to rotting.  Traveler installed in front of wheel.  Side coaming boards refinished and coated in Cetol/Sikkens.

Piles of supplies, priming and epoxy fillers all around, coachroof painted, cockpit still bare, wheel still wrapped in rope, no wood around cockpit or companionway entrance, ports removed, no winches, grab rails off, bow rai and lifelines removed.

Companionway and coaming wood varnished and installed, cover built for companionway and grab rails,  wheel and new frame mounted, traveler mounted, ports, grab rails and winches, dorade vent, depth sounder and genoa tracks installed, lifelines installed and bow pulpit almost ready to go after Al bends the new pulpit...almost ready to sail!

Winter cover frame on, old companionway wood on, winches and cleats not removed yet, old grab rails in place, depth sounder and lifelines removed.

The companionway cover had to be built in order to keep the rain out....here is it in progress

Cut out the old cabinets and oversized ice box to make and re-create the nav station, notice the full shelf above the nav area. This area used to be filled with an entire ice box and shelving above.

New nav station with a frigerator underneath and a seat for the navigator, shelf shortened to a usable size above frig, dimmer light installed above nav station, oh yeah, and speakers for the MP3 player.

No headliner here. Al built up a back rest for the new back cushion and also made a shelf behind it.

Looking aft from the V-berth

All the old paper and rubber cement had to be ground off the ceiling, all ports had been removed, sanded, primed and painted before headliner could be installed.  Grab rails were removed

Headiner installed....grab rails oiled and re-installed, cushions done and installed.

V-berth during the work process....

The new cushion - built large enough with extra on the left side so two people can lay side by side, while you can still get in, close the door and into the hanging locker behind the door.

THE MAST....BOOM....AND SPREADERS

The mast, where it's lived in the yard for

lmost 7 years - this is shown with the old nasty house paint that had been slapped on years ago by a previous owner.  Most of the fittings are in the process of being removed.

Mast Nearly Complete - scraped, sanded, primed, painted with all the correct paint.  New spreaders (seen sticking up at the far end), boom painted too, all fittings replaced, re-installed or polished.
